Clear bushy areas by roads against criminals, Bono Minister to M/DCEs

Sunyani, June 29, GNA- Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister, has directed Municipal/District Chief Executives (M/DCEs) to ensure bushy areas, particularly along the roadsides are cleared off to guarantee the security and safety of the people.

She said bushy areas and abandoned uncompleted buildings posed security threats to the people because criminals could hide in such places to attack unsuspecting victims.

So, clearing of the bushes would prevent them (criminals) from using such locations to execute their nefarious and robbery activities, the Regional Minister said.

Madam Owusu-Banahene gave the directive when she was addressing a meeting of the Bono Regional Security Council (REGSEC), which was attended by leaders of the Christian and Muslim communities in Sunyani.

It was aimed at creating awareness of possible security threats in the region and the need for stakeholders to collaborate with the REGSEC in its implementation of strategies and other preventive measures to protect the prevailing peace in the area.

The Regional Minister entreated the religious leaders to be alert at their meetings because criminals, particularly terrorists mostly strike at large gatherings.

She said not only the religious leaders who must be vigilant, but the public too must prompt the Police of any suspicious persons either at public gatherings or in their localities for quick action to avert any crime against the people.

Mr Maulvi Amir Fahim, the Zonal Missionary for the Ahmadiya Muslim Mission in Sunyani, suggested the national identification cards must be inspected at the entrance of any gathering, stressing that thorough security checks should be done on participants before entry to prevent criminals from achieving their goals.

He advised the public to use the right channels to report cases about suspicious characters, saying such information must be communicated properly without creating fear and panic.
