Accra, March 30, GNA – The Black Stars of Ghana arrived at the Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday dawn, after the team’s heroic performance against Nigeria in the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) World Cup playoffs yesterday.
After the first leg ended goalless in Kumasi four days ago, Ghana drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture to qualify to the quadrennial competition on an away goal rule.
Arsenal star Thomas broke the deadlock in the 11th minute before Captain William Ekong Troost pulled parity via penalty to end the game in a stalemate.
The players, technical team and management body touched down in Accra and were welcomed on arrival by supporters, amidst dancing and singing.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif and his entourage were also at the airport to welcome the team back from Nigeria.
Ghana returns to the Mundial after missing out on the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
