Accra, Feb. 03, GNA – The National Labour Commission (NLC) has invited all parties in the University Teachers Association of Ghana’s (UTAG) industrial action to appear before it on Monday, February 7, 2022.
“This invitation is pursuant to the directive by the High Court at the hearing of the matter by the Court today, February 03, 2022,” the Commission said in press release signed by Mr Ofosu Asamoah, its Executive Secretary, and copied to the Ghana News Agency.
According to the statement, all parties, including the Ministries of Employment and Labour Relations, Finance, and Education as well as the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, must endeavor to attend.
A High Court in Accra, Labour Division, had asked the leadership of the NLC and University Teachers UTAG to settle the industrial action impasse out of court.
The Court, presided over by Justice Frank Rockson Aboadwe, gave the NLC and UTAG up to February 10, this year, to report back to the Court.
UTAG on Monday, January 10, 2022, embarked on an industrial action over “worsening” conditions of service.
The National Labour Commission after hearing the case on Thursday, January 13, 2022, ruled that the strike be called off because it was illegal and did not follow due process.
UTAG continued with the industrial action despite the directive from the NLC to call it off.
The NLC, then dragged UTAG to court for the refusal to comply with the directive.
