Accra, Feb.3, GNA – A seven-member multi-sectoral reconstruction committee for Appiatse has been inaugurated in Accra tasked to build a green and environmentally sustainable community, a model town for other communities across the country.
The Committee, chaired by Mr Benito Owusu-Bio, a Deputy Minister of Lands and Forestry, comprises professional and technical experts from various public and private sector institutions.
They include Mr Sylvester Adjornu, Director of Rural Housing, Ministry of Works and Housing, Mr Kwadwo Yeboah, Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority, Mr Charles Blankson Hemans, Ghana Institute of Architects, and Robert Gyamfi, a Resettlement Specialist, Chamber of Mines.
The rest are Nana Nuamah Kyei-Baffour, Ghana Institute of Surveyors and Nana Atta Kwadwo Bremebi II, Appiatse Chief and Divisional Chief of Beppoh in the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area.
Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, who inaugurated the Committee, said President Nana Akufo-Addo had tasked the Ministry to collaborate with other allied institutions to re-construct Appiatse to be a model community that could be replicated at other places.
He re-affirmed the President’s desire to restore livelihoods for the people of Appiatse to bring normalcy to the area.
The Minister said it was perusing the report submitted by the investigative committee on the Appiatse explosion and would soon announce the next line of action.
Mr Owusu-Bio, on behalf of the Committee members, accepted the challenge, describing the task as very important and a sobering responsibility.
He called for co-operation from all entities and stakeholders in order to execute its mandate efficiently.
Nana Atta Kwadwo Bremebi II, the Divisional Chief of Beppoh, who has oversight responsibility over Appiatse, thanked the President for the promptitude in tackling the Appiatse explosion and other matters arising from the incident.
He expressed the belief that the Government would put measures in place to forestall future occurrences.
