Bogoso (W/R), Jan. 30, GNA – The General Secretary of the Ghana Mine Workers Union (GMWU), Mr Abdul Moomin Gbana, has called on the government to rebuild the Appiatse community as soon as possible.
He said with the determination and commitment of the government on this project, it should be completed early to bring relief to the victims who feel dejected.
Mr Gbana said this in an interview with journalists when the GMWU paid a visit to commiserate with the affected victims and presented a cheque equivalent of 800 bags of cement to boost the efforts of the government as a relief fund has been set up.
“One of our members was affected by the incident and although he is doing well, he lost a son, a nephew, and properties. In times like this, we pray that he gets comfort to get through these difficult times”, he said.
He noted that, “We dominantly operate in the Mining Industry of this country. Since many of our members live in Mining communities and work in the Mines, we are directly impacted by any form or kind of disaster that befalls such communities.
“As GMWU, we hope to bring some kind of relief to the victims of the explosion,” Mr Gbana added.
The Municipal Chief Executive of Prestea Huni-Valley, Dr Isaac Dasmani, who received the cheque on behalf of the community expressed gratitude to GMWU.
