Tema, Jan. 30, GNA – The Ada East District Assembly has launched the Operation Clean Your Frontage initiative at the Kasseh Lorry station with a clean-up exercise in its various communities.
The team comprising the District Chief Executive, the District Coordinating Director, Environmental and Health Officer, NADMO, and other members of the Assembly visited business centres, homes, shops among others to ascertain their compliance to good sanitation practices.
Madam Sarah Dugbakie Pobee, the Ada East District Chief Executive said the event was a prelude to complement the official launch of the initiative by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Henry Quartey, in February.
She said Ada East working on the theme “I need you; you need me to make Ada clean,” was to inform the public that the initiative would be implemented and would require the collective effort to make it work.
Madam Dugbakie added that it was also to educate the citizenry on the existing byelaws and the consequences that came with breaching them adding that anyone found not cooperating would face the law.
She called on philanthropists and other stakeholders to support the Assembly with funds to sustain the exercise.
The District Chief Assembly said several meetings had been held with stakeholders in the district and expressed disappointment in the response of some residents in their participation in the exercise even though enough sensitization had been done in the district.
Madam Dugbakie added that as part of the measures to reinforce Operation Clean Your Frontage, the Assembly would be visiting the churches, mosques, and other public places to remind them of the need to promote good hygiene.
Mr Frank Abima, District Environmental and Health Officer of Ada East urged the residents to inculcate the habit of good hygiene to promote general wellbeing.
He said his outfit was ready to work effortlessly to curb sanitation challenges in the district.
Mr Fred Bubune Kpodo, the District Coordinating Director of Ada East reiterated that the policy had come to stay as such anyone whose surrounding was unkempt would face the law.
“All we are saying is that you should brighten their corner where you are. All unauthorized structures and sellers on the pedestrian lanes would be cleared to ensure free flow of movement in the District from February.
