UN Women calls for women’s economic empowerment

Tema, Dec. 12, GNA – Ms Sima Bahous, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and UN Women Executive Director, has called for support for women’s economic empowerment through financial inclusion, access to decent work, entrepreneurship, and advancement of paid care economy.

Ms Bahous, in a document made available to the Ghana News Agency, detailing UN Women’s programme from 2021 to 2030, emphasised access to sustainable livelihoods for women refugees.

“We must not turn our backs on the millions of women and girls whose lives have been forever compromised by gender-based violence,” he said.

“Everyone has a role to play. I ask you to join UN Women globally in calling for an end to impunity and an end to the broader global culture that still does not take gender-based violence seriously enough”.

“We know that women’s full and effective participation and leadership in all areas of life drives progress for everyone.”

Ms Bahous said under the UN Secretary-General’s UNiTE to End Violence against Women Movement, the UN system marked the 16 Days of Activism on the theme: “Orange the World: End Violence against Women Now!”.
