Tarkwa (W/R), Dec.1, GNA – The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa-Nusaem constituency, Mr George Mireku Duker, has begun his second loan disbursement to four hundred women.
The programme since its inception last year has already assisted 200 women with seed capital to establish various businesses.
Speaking at the function, the MP who doubles as the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources said the loan package was interest-free.
He said “the first beneficiaries who received the loans have repaid their monies and this had encouraged me to increase the beneficiaries this year”
Mr Duker announced that in the early part of next year, 500 women would receive similar help to enable them to generate enough income to cater for themselves and their families.
He assured the constituents that the disbursement of the loan would be done continuously to enable interested women in the constituency to establish new or re-start their businesses.
“I have enrolled many young women into dressmaking and other trades. Anyone interested in learning any of these should contact my office” He added.
The Deputy Minister used the occasion to present an industrial sewing machine to a former student of Takoradi Technical University, Miss Betty Ama Noman, to enable her to work and earn money to finance her education.
Mr Benjamin Kessie, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, on his part recalled that last year some people said they would provide loan facilities to the citizenry but it never materialized.
He called on the people of Tarkwa-Nsuaem particularly the NPP faithful to rally behind the MP and accord him the needed support in his second term as he has lots of good things in stock.
Some beneficiaries, Madam Akua Ansah and Miss Noman who intended to establish a fashion school to train the needy and less privileged thanked the MP for being sensitive to the plight of women in his constituency.
