Tema West: MCE inspects road construction works in the municipality

Tema, Nov. 15, GNA – Mrs Anna Naa Adukwei Addo, the Tema West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), on Monday inspected on-going road projects in the area and assured residents to expect completion of work within two weeks.

The road inspected included; the three kilometre stretch from Under-Bridge to Santor within the Adjei Kojo Electoral Area.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency during the inspection, Mrs Adukwei described the three-kilometre stretch as a huge challenge for commuters and residents plying it.

She said although the stretch was short, its dilapidated nature did not save time and energy of commuters hence the urgent need to get it fixed.

She added that, the Assembly realized the need for residents to have smooth journey on the road and also to alleviate the numerous issues raised on spare parts by drivers.

The MCE noted that, the rehabilitation works included grinding and graveling and was in partnership with Government of Ghana and the Sinohydro Corporation Limited.

Sinohydro Corporation Limited is a Chinese state-owned hydropower engineering and construction company.

“So we are doing an interim measure to give some form of respite, talks are underway with the Ministry of Highways to get all bad roads fixed in the municipality.”

Mr Emmanuel Wordey, the Tema West Municipal Roads Engineer, assured the residents that the work would be completed on the stipulated time.

Answering questions on the use of the Under-Bridge by drivers, he explained that as a long term solution, there was a comprehensive plan to redevelop the entire area under the Motorway expansion project.

“Vehicles and commuters are faced with big challenge from Klagon, Adjei Kojo through to the Ashaiman area. When the traffic is heavy you can spend more than two hours being static.

“So the Tema West Municipal Assembly has tasked its Roads Department as an interim measure to get the portholes fixed and sealed for now,” he said.

Mrs Charity Siame, the Assemblywoman for the Adjei Kojo Electoral Area commended the MCE for the support and asked for other urgent amenities to be provided including; security, adding that, there was no public clinic in the area.

Some drivers and commuters who interacted with GNA expressed their excitement and yearned for the work to be completed on time.
