C/R Stakeholders committed to Green Plant Project

Cape Coast, May 28, GNA – Stakeholders in the Central Region have committed to ensuring the success of the Green Plant Project being embarked on by the Forestry Commission to preserve the Country’s forests and environment.

They expressed their unwavering commitment to plant all the 400,000 trees earmarked for the Region, on June 11 to support the efforts of retrieving lost forest reserves and the environment.

That was made when Mr John Allotey, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Forestry Commission paid courtesy calls on relevant stakeholders within the Region to solicit support and discuss the preparedness of the Commission to undertake the Project.

At the Residency of the Central Regional Coordinating Council, Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, Regional Minister assured the CEO that her outfit would make all necessary arrangements to ensure that the Region planted its targeted trees on the day to sustain the environment.

She said she would collaborate with all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs ) in the Region to ensure the success of the project and was excited about the dream becoming a reality.

The Minister called on the public to come on board to support the commission’s effort in saving our forest and advised all to inculcate the habit of growing plants.

The team also called on the Central Regional House of Chiefs where Odeefo Amoakwa Boadu VIII, President of the House together with his Vice, lauded the Green Ghana programme and expressed the hope that the initiative would make the country green again, following the activities of illegal small-scale miners that has depleted the forest cover.

He said the capacity to plant over 400,000 trees in the Region would be achieved if all its leaders, especially chiefs would play their respective roles.

Neenyi Ghartey VIII, the Omahene of the Efutu Traditional Council said he would make land available to support the planting of the trees on June 11 for the project.

He said the Traditional Council would mobilize the youth and Asafo groups in the district to ensure they get involved in the process.

Neenyi Ghartey appealed to the Commission to make sustainability of the Project a priority to ensure their efforts yielded good results in the end.

Mr Allotey called on all to collaborate in saving the forest and the environment in the Country.

The Green Ghana project is a presidential initiative launched by President Nana Akufo-Addo on March 23, 2021, to rally Ghanaians to plant five million trees on June 11, 2021, to preserve the country’s forest.

The initiative was also to encourage the citizens and inculcate in them the habit of planting trees to protect the vegetation cover for a balanced ecology and as a long-term measure against heavy storms.
